But benefits budgets are becoming increasingly tight. And employers are looking for new ways to manage costs while still offering robust coverage. As a result, individual coverage health reimbursement arrangements (ICHRAs) are gaining momentum. ICHRAs are an especially popular option for startups and employers that haven’t been able to offer health coverage in the past.
With an ICHRA, employees choose their own health plan using a monthly, tax-free allowance from their employer. They can use these funds to cover premiums — including dental and vision premiums — and qualified medical expenses.
