Chief Innovation Officer, Kaiser Permanente Southern California

Tad Funahashi, MD is the Chief Innovation Officer for Kaiser Permanente Southern California. In this role, he leads a team of physicians, consultants, designers, data scientists, and engineers who work together with teams and leaders across Kaiser Permanente to envision and build the healthcare delivery system of the future at the Kaiser Permanente Innovations Studio. Dr. Funahashi and the Innovation Studio take a people-first approach to healthcare to enhance the member experience by improving care across the continuum, leveraging big data to provide personalized and improved quality of care, and exploring emerging opportunities that have transformative potential. Dr. Funahashi maintains a busy clinical and teaching practice in orthopedic surgery and is a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at University of California Irvine College of Medicine.

Sarah Mastrorocco is Vice President and General Manager of Health at Instacart. A longtime Instacart veteran and leader, Sarah oversees Instacart Health, an initiative designed to support businesses, nonprofits and consumers across three key areas: increasing nutrition security, inspiring healthier choices, and scaling food as medicine programs. Sarah has played an integral role at Instacart since joining as the first member of the company’s business development team in 2014. During her tenure at Instacart, she’s taken on various leadership positions across Business Development, Account Management, and Catalog. Prior to her current role, Sarah oversaw and scaled Instacart’s Pickup business.

Richard Mayes

Managing Director Health and Wellness, United Airlines

Rick Mayes is the Managing Director of Health and Wellness and has responsibility for the management of United’s health and wellness plans covering over 300,000 active and retired participants. His team manages a broad scope of employee benefits across the U.S. Guam and international bases with a strong focus on population health and addressing health equity. In addition to the more traditional medical, dental, and vision plans, United’s programs include unique benefits negotiated with various labor groups and corporate discounts. His team also has responsibility for United’s benefit analytics and finance teams. Prior to joining United, Rick held several leadership roles focused on the implementation of HR technology and ongoing operations in the areas of benefits, HRIS, payroll, and talent management. His background also includes actuarial consulting, advertising, and HR consulting. Rick has a B.S. in Actuarial Science from the University of Illinois and a masters from DePaul University. He received his SPHR certification in 2004. He was born and raised in Chicago and is married with two daughters.

Mehreen Khan, MD, MPH

TPMG Medical Director for Population Care, Kaiser Permanente

Dr. Khan is the Regional TPMG Medical Director for Population Care. In this role she oversees the PHASE program – Preventing Heart Attacks and Strokes Every day. This work includes oversight of teams of physicians, clinical pharmacists, clinical health educators and many more who work together to manage the care of Diabetes, Hypertension and Cholesterol and aim to improve health care outcomes for our NCAL KP population of 4.3 million members. Dr. Khan also oversees other programs for Population care including Asthma, Fracture Prevention, Cardiac Rehab, Congestive Heart Failure, Hep B and Hep C monitoring. She is also directing a new Precision Medicine Program which will use gene sequencing to individualize care, and Remote Patient Monitoring using technology to help assist in the routine management of chronic medical conditions. Dr. Khan completed IM residency and Endocrinology Fellowship at Case Western Reserve Medical Center and received an MPH from UC Berkeley. She has practiced as an Endocrinologist with TPMG for the last 13 years and is currently based in the KP Santa Clara Facility.

Mehreen lives in the South Bay and is an avid Peloton rider, reader, chef and mom to two teens and the best cat in the world.
