In alignment with state and federal requirements, Kaiser Permanente is reaching out to your small and large group clients in California to verify if their business continues to fit in the category of a small or large employer. Please note that clients with 200 or less employees will be included in this effort. This initiative will ensure accurate ACA compliance reporting for Medical Loss Ratio and Risk Adjustment. Outreach will take place on or before February 1, 2019 (via email or US mail) and will include a link for your client(s) to complete a short, online group size attestation form. The form must be completed by February 28, 2019. Once the date has passed, we will conclude your client(s) want to keep their current coverage.
Keeping Your Current Plan
If your client(s) company’s size has changed and they are now eligible for coverage as a different-sized group (small or large), they may choose to keep their current plan under guaranteed renewability rules. Your clients are not required to change your coverage. Please note that some restrictions apply if they choose to keep their current coverage and contract:
Why Kaiser Permanente Is Reaching Out Now
Each year, we verify group size in advance of the next renewal date to allow time to consider options, request quotes, if applicable, make benefit decisions, and conduct an open enrollment. If the group size has changed, and your client (s) want to offer coverage as a small group instead of as a large group or vice versa, it is important that a change request in coverage at least 90 days prior to the renewal date.
