Announcing our new collaboration with Cigna for Flexible Choice and PPO Plans
We appreciate your continued partnership with Kaiser Permanente Insurance Company (KPIC) and are excited to share the details of our new collaboration with Cigna. Starting in 2023, Flexible Choice Point-of-Service and Out-of-Area PPO Insurance plan members will have access to Cigna’s PPO Network outside of Kaiser Permanente states 1,2,3 — making it more convenient for them to find care when they need it.
What’s changing?
Starting January 1, 2023, the Cigna PPO Network will replace members’ PHCS & MultiPlan Network outside of Kaiser Permanente states (California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Oregon, Virginia, Washington, and Washington, D.C.).4 They’ll still be able to get care from PHCS & MultiPlan Network providers within Kaiser Permanente states.
With the Cigna PPO Network, members will get:
- More locations: With a broad network of providers, they’ll have many options for care.
- Simple check-in: In December, your employees will receive an updated member ID card with the Cigna logo. They’ll just show it at their visit.
- Lower cost: Thanks to lower contracted rates, members will pay less for many services with a coinsurance.
- Less paperwork: Cigna providers will get any necessary precertifications for care, so members don’t have to.
How will members be notified?
This month, we’re sending your employees a letter about this network change. If it will disrupt their current care, they’ll get another letter in November with more information on finding a new provider and continuing their current care.
Members can visit kp.org/flexiblechoice/mas or kp.org/ooappo/mas anytime to find Cigna PPO Network and PHCS & MultiPlan Network providers near them.
Will the group contract reflect this change?
For 2022 group contracts that are still in effect in 2023 and for 2023 group contracts, you'll get a rider to amend your employees' COI and reflect the change going into effect January 1.
